unit control systems
Unit control systems are designed up to the unit’s power and for all kinds of turbine types. For the small power stations, unit control system beside basic control functions, it have integrated generator’s electrical protections, automatic synchronization, turbine governor, excitation system, medium voltage switchgear supervision and intake-headpond control all-in-one approach).
In case of medium size power stations, the unit control system has only basic control functions: start/stop sequence, manual and test mode of operation, mechanical protections, DC&AC auxiliary systems supervision, cooling&lubrication systems control, generator circuit breaker (medium or low voltage) control.
All systems have “smart communication” capabilities. Commonly used protocols: Modbus TCP, Profinet, Profibus-DP, DNP3, TCP-IP.
All Unit Control Systems have redundant power supply. Power source could be DC-220V, DC-110V, DC-48V, DC-24V or AC-230V. Other power sources could be implemented up to request.
common control system
Common control systems are usually implemented in case of more than one unit in the small power station. In case of a medium power station even in case of only one unit, it is not possible to avoid the common control system, because of numerous and more complex auxiliary systems which must be controlled.
If installed, the common control system cares about power station common systems, such as cooling system, DC and AC auxiliary system, medium voltage switchgear or switchyard, drainage system, headpond equipment,…
In the case of a small power station, a part of the common control system could be grid protection relay.
If necessary, a common control system could be organized as a distribution system, where local PLC elements are connected to the common control system with the smart communication (copper wire or fiber optic) in order to minimize hardwiring. Normally, the Common Control System has no operator panel. All relevant measurement, setups and other information are presented on the all Unit Control System screens. Instead of an operator panel, a synoptic panel is used.
ac&DC auxiliary systems
AC auxiliary system cares about supply and protection of all loads in the power station.
MCBs and motor protection circuit breakers are included as well as isolation switches.
For the electrical measurement (input voltages, currents, active power, reactive power, active energy, reactive energy,…), AC network analyzer is used. It could be connected to the SCADA system using Modbus-TCP or Profinet.
DC auxiliary system consists of a battery charger with the control unit and all necessary elements for safe DC distribution and annunciation.
Reliable and robust modular type battery charger is provided for charging 24V, 48V, 110V or 220V batteries- up to project request.
For the small power stations, where low capacity batteries are required, VRLA type batteries could be installed inside DC system cabinet.
Control unit cares about necessary measurement (battery supervision, ground fault check, …). It could be connected with the SCADA system using Modbus-TCP protocol.
low voltage power cabinet
Low voltage cabinet (generator circuit breaker cabinet) serves for generator connection to the low voltage grid or to the step up transformer.
Withdrawable generator circuit breaker is equipped with the overcurrent and short circuit protection, which serve as backup protections.
All necessary measurement and protectcion CTs are installed as well as overvoltage protection(surge arrester).
If requered, measurement voltage transformer with all necessary protection elements are installed too.
turbine governor
PLC-based turbine governor covers all relevant turbine types (Francis, single and double regulated Kaplan, 1-5 needles Pelton, Crossflow/Banki, Turgo).
Turbine governor as stand-alone device is working with the turbine actuators only. In some cases it could manage MIV and HPU.
Follownig governing tasks are perfomed: speed no-load regulation, active power regulation, intake (headpond) water level regulation, turbine water flow regulation, islanded mode.
For the testing purpose, manual and test mode is available.
